The Centre on Global Health Security is pleased to team up with the Global Health Centre at the Graduate Institute; Geneva is offering African Public Health Leaders Fellowship for the academic year 2018-2019. Fellowships are available to emerge health professionals from Africa.Chatham House is consistently ranked as one of the world’s leading policy institutes. Based in London, with a full-time staff of over 160 – and with a network of 150 associate fellows – we provide rigorous and independent analysis on how to build a sustainably secure, prosperous and just world.Applicants whose first language is not English are usually required to provide evidence of proficiency in English at the higher level required by the University.

Scholarship Description

  • Course Level: Fellowships are available to emerge health professionals.
  • Study Subject: Fellows will be expected to undertake a project in one of the following areas:
  • Communicable diseases, including emerging infections and antimicrobial resistance.
  • International Health Regulations.
  • Universal Health Coverage.
  • The role of private industry in public health.
  • One Health.
  • Planetary health.
  • Climate change and health.
  • Sustainable Development Goals.
  • Non-communicable diseases and their risk factors, including obesity and smoking.

Scholarship Award: The fellowship provides fellows with an opportunity to:

  • Hone their leadership skills.
  • Improve their ability to assess public health in their own country.
  • Strengthen their capacity to develop, implement and evaluate public health initiatives.
  • Build networks across relevant sectors.
  • Nationality: This is an annual fellowship for mid- and senior-level public health managers from Africa.

Eligible Countries: This is an annual fellowship for mid- and senior-level public health managers from Africa:

Algeria, Angola, Benin, Botswana, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cameroon, Cape Verde, Central African Republic, Chad, Comoros, Ivory Coast, Djibouti, Egypt, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Gabon, Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Kenya, Lesotho, Liberia, Libya, Madagascar, Malawi, Mali, Mauritania, Mauritius, Morocco, Mozambique, Namibia, Niger, Nigeria, Republic of the Congo, Rwanda, Sao Tome and Principe, Senegal, Seychelles, Sierra Leone, Somalia, South Africa, Sudan, Swaziland, Tanzania, Togo, Tunisia, Uganda, Western Sahara, Zambia and  Zimbabwe.

Entrance Requirements: Applicants must meet the following criteria:

The fellowship is available to Africans, working in Africa, who have a background in mid-level or senior public health management and who want to strengthen their public health leadership skills and knowledge in order to effect real and lasting change.

Candidates must be in a fully paid position in public health, in either a private or public institution in Africa, that permits a month’s absence for the foundation course training and time for the development of the project during the year of the fellowship. Financial support is available for the implementation of field work.
